Sexual identity and orientation are evolving—and so is the way we experience pleasure. Recent studies reveal that 1.6% of U.S. adults identify as transgender or nonbinary, with that number rising to 5.1% among adults under 30. At the same time, a growing number of people are embracing sexual fluidity, with bisexuality now the most common identity within the LGBTQ+ community across Gen Z, Millennials and Gen X.
But has the sex toy industry kept pace with these changes? Biird, known for its creative and innovative pleasure products, believes the time is now to introduce more gender-neutral, versatile designs that reflect the diverse ways people experience intimacy. As a female-led, pleasure-positive company, Biird is known for its unique, multi-award-winning designs and its dedication to raising awareness about industry bias around female sexuality.
“It’s time for the pleasure industry to step up,” says Andrea Ray, co-founder of Biird.
“We’ve seen firsthand how the market has evolved over the past decade, and it’s clear that consumers are looking for more than just function—they want beautifully crafted ‘objets de plaisir’ that feel personal and intimate. People want toys that are universal, inclusive and designed for all bodies and experiences. At Biird, we’re committed to creating pleasure objects that speak to these desires and invite everyone to explore pleasure on their own terms.”
As part of this commitment, Biird collaborated with Edwige from Wicul, a French psychiatric nurse and sex therapist, to bring the vision of Ohwii to life. Crafted from mesmerizing borosilicate glass, Ohwii’s double-ended design is intentionally adaptable, offering G-spot and P-spot stimulation for solo or partnered play. The glass material opens the door to temperature play, adding even more possibilities for exploration.
“Designing a truly inclusive pleasure product is no easy task,” says Edwige.

“Most cater to specific genders or experiences, leaving some people out or requiring them to use multiple products to meet their needs. With Ohwii, we’ve created something that’s both beautiful and functional—a toy that adapts to each person’s desires.”
In 2022, we spoke with Wet For Her founder Alice Derock, a French entrepreneur who started out marketing the brand “by women, for women”, but soon realized her perspective, and indeed the entire sex toy industry’s, needed to shift.
“The sex toy industry needs more queer people leading the pleasure revolution. Being a queer woman in a male-dominated space is already rebellious, but I believe continuing to advocate pleasure for all bodies is what truly has allowed me to challenge the status quo,” she told us.
Alice explained that her company’s shift was in response to their growing queer audience on social media, recognizing that everyone deserves pleasure.
“LGBTQ consumers are a niche market that most big players in the sex industry will not focus on and we always have to go on a sub-sub menu to find products for us and sometimes they don’t really fulfill our needs,” she said.
Likewise, the latest innovative product from Biird shows how female-led companies in this space understand how to cater to the growing market, and why it is important to be inclusive of all genders.
To get in on the action (pun intended!) you can head to Biird’s website to purchase the Ohwii, which retails for $59.90.
