[VIDEO] Jac Vanek’s Million Dollar Success Comes From Unexpected Source

Jac Vanek is a designer who discovered her passion and drive at the age of 15. She fell in love with music, and fueled by her passion for music festivals, she started designing wrist bands and would sell them at concerts and festivals such as The Warped Tour. As a young girl she was met with a lot of resistance from this male-dominated industry at the time. But she knew music, and designing was what she wanted to do with her life and didn’t let a bunch of guys stop her. It all started with one wristband with the world “RUTHLESS” on it which started to become popular very quickly.

“When I finally stopped trying to please and impress everyone around me and started focusing on what made me happy, everything began to fall into place.”

“During these early years, I learned one especially harsh reality: the music scene is primarily a male-dominated one. It was (and still is) quite the battle to prove myself as a professional woman, especially at such a young age. I’ve had to deal with endless setbacks and kicks in the ass based solely on the fact that I am female, but these only fuel my drive to succeed that much more. As my business continues to grow, I hope to give serious, driven, and passionate girls the opportunity to legitimately work in the music scene as well.”

As the popularity and demand for her business grew, which started with a $200 loan from her parents as a teenager, she expanded into t-shirts which she is now famous for. At the age of 26, she is now the CEO of a major label which not only turns a huge profit but also aims to spread the message of inspiring other girls.

Her designs have been worn by celebs and bands such as Miley Cyrus, Cobra Starship, The Academy Is, Demi Lovato, Kat Von D, Emma Roberts and more. She has never taken out a business loan, never accepted offers from any investor, and she doesn’t do any formal advertising or marketing. Her success comes solely from word of mouth, viral marketing such as social media (she has hundreds of thousands of followers across twitter, facebook and instagram).

We caught up with this amazing female entrepreneur at the Element Eden trunk show for Fall 2013, who she has been collaborating with over the past year. This is our first profile interview in our new web series “Role Models”.
