Joseph Gordon-Levitt Is A “Feminist”…His Words, We Swear!

Ok, if there is one guy who we can unashamedly claim our undying love for, it’s Joseph Gordon-Levitt. This talented hottie is not only a great actor, director and writer, but he clearly has some brains, and values women for their true worth, not the way society and the media teaches young men. Hallelujah!

He spoke with Ellen Degeneres about his new movie Don Jon (which he wrote, directed & starred in, no less) where he plays a girl-loving, gym-fanatic, body-obsessed guy from New Jersey. When you watch the trailer you think, great, another movie where a man gets to exhibit his gross display of reductive masculinity showing why chicks, drugs, and cars are what makes them happy.

Apparently this is not the point of the movie, which is clearly explains to Ellen. Also, he is unapologetic in claiming that he is a feminist, thanks to his wonderful mother who taught him and his younger brother to question the ways society dictates the roles of men and women.

“My mom would always point out to my brother and me, that our culture does often portray women like objects. For example, we would always watch Lakers games as a family, but my mom would always point out every time the cheerleaders come on, ‘Okay here’s the story that gets told: The men get to be the heroic skilled athletes and the women just get to be pretty.’ She didn’t mean any offense to any individual woman who was working as a cheerleader, but she wanted me and my brother to be aware of it because we see these images on TV, in the movies, and on magazines all the time. And if you don’t stop and think about it, it just sort of seeps into your brain and that becomes the way you perceive reality.”

Whatever you think of his films, you cannot deny that he is a brilliant mind who is a great example to a generation of men to see the value of women not based upon just their physical appearance. His words urge men everywhere to really challenge how they view things, because it can only lead to positive things when you start valuing women for who they are, as opposed to thinking them lesser in some way.

We would now like you to take this opportunity, before you watch the short interview below, to take a moment to pause, look at this picture of JGL and thank God for men like him in this world who speak the truth on a platform as big as his! Amen!

Ok… that’s enough staring. Now you can watch the video and be thankful for awesome dudes who aren’t ashamed to be identified among the greatest group in the world: feminists!
