Newsflash: Kate Upton Is A Model NOT A “Dumb Blonde”

Listen up people, Kate Upton is NOT a dumb blonde! The uber successful almost-supermodel covers the September issue of US Elle Magazine and opens up about more than just her fashion taste.

She may have turned off a lot of women for her scantily-clad “cat daddy” video shot by photographer/pornographer Terry Richardson, but it seems the hard working model is determined to show another side of her, and keep her business going.

There are plenty of critics charging her with leading the fashion industry back into the curvy model trend that was more evident in the 90s era, which in turn will hopefully generate healthier body images amongst teen girls who pore over the pages of fashion magazines religiously.

But one thing she ain’t is dumb, and Kate is sick of this perception about her and the modeling industry in general.

“People deal with models like they are children. They think they can pull one over on you. It’s actually funny. I’m always like, I’m about to pull something on you,  and you’re so focused on thinking I’m dumb you’re not even going to know.”

It is an attitude that does need to change, especially since modeling is one of the very few industries where women actually out-earn men!
What people may not know about Ms. Upton, despite all her photo shoots in barely-there swimsuits, is that she is a Christian and she feels hurt that people would judge her just because she models.

“I was at a photo shoot and I was wearing a cross necklace that my mom bought me, and somebody made a joke like, ‘Why are you wearing a cross? Like you would be religious.’ And then they took [my necklace] away. I was really affected by that. The whole thing made me realize that I do want [a cross] with me, at all times.”

While the Westboro Baptist “Christians” no doubt would be telling her she is going to hell, she has a legitimate career as a model and is not doing anything against her religion. In fact, more than most models, she is a good role to aspire to for any young girls looking for healthy fashion icons!
But part of being a swimsuit model unfortunately has it’s downfall as there are plenty of immature, idiotic males who will treat her like a plaything instead of respecting her as a career woman.
“After my first Sports Illustrated cover, I felt terrible about myself for a solid month. Every single guy I met was either married or about to be married, and I felt like I was their bachelor present or something. I’m not a toy, I’m a human. I’m not here to be used. I am a grown woman, and you need to figure your shit out.”

Well, even models have their horrible days/weeks/months, it seems. So men, you all need to figure your Sh#t out and start respecting us more! There’s no need to stereotype and judge a woman just because of her career.
We hope there are more models like Kate Upton who are professional, hard working, present a healthy body image, and aspire to inspire, rather than be a bad public role model (Cara Delevigne anyone?).
There’s a reason why she is so in-demand. Regardless of who you are and what you do for a job, every woman deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and shouldn’t be judged or labeled simply because of your beliefs, your looks or what you wear. If you persevere the haters and detractors will eventually get bored and go away.
Keep up the great work Kate and all the other hard working women out there in the world!

Hmmmm…. well if she wants to be treated with respect maybe she should say “no” to doing the Sports Illustrated “swimsuit” issue, (in italics b/c there are hardly any true swim suits shown in this magazine!) and others like it. Here’s a clue – if you feel horrible about posing for it then it probably wasn’t your best choice.

well written piece of journalism. Saw Kate in The Other Woman”, thought she was playing a great part and it was fun. Will send criticism to other “journalists” who criticise her – they are just plain jealous of her beautiful body and lovely open personality. She’s just a kid really on her way to the top. Good on her (and you)

  4. She’s a terrible flat dull actress and interview. What does that leave?
