Meet The 1st Female Member Of The Nitro Circus Motocross Team

Just when you thought motocross and daredevil stunts was only for boys, along comes this woman who is about to change that forever. No she is not a flag girl, or a cheerleader, or a WAG, she is a legit motocross rider! Her name is Jolene Van Vugt, she is 33 and is dominating the boys of the Nitro Circus motocross team.

This ballsy chick is paving the way for many young girls who like to ride dirt bikes and want to compete in the risky sport.

The Canadian girl has been riding bikes since she was 11, and to date has lost count of how many bones she has broken, but she prefers not to keep tally a she says in an interview with ABC news its bad karma anyway.

But Jolene isn’t just the token girl on the team, she means business and isn’t about to let her gender get in the way of being the best. She holds multiple world records, including two Guinness World Records! No biggie… She is the first female to backflip a full-sized dirt bike.

She was also Anne Hathaway’s stunt double in the ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. How cool. When she was asked to join the Nitro Circus tour she was the only girl and she knew how significant her addition to the team was.

“When I broke into the ‘Nitro Circus,’ there were no girls. They had never –- not that they didn’t want to include one –- they couldn’t find one that could hang with them,” she said. “I gave it a go and was able to complete it,” she told Reena Ninan of Nightline.

Jolene says her incredible talent and skill have earned the respect of all the men on the team, including the creator Travis Pastrana, who she says are all like brothers to her. Fun Fact: her actual brother drives the Nitro Circus bus. Keepin’ it in the family!

She is breaking many barriers in this male-dominated sport, and the fact that she is a well-respected member of the team shows other girls they have the chance of doing the same thanks to pioneers like Van Vugt.

“It’s dangerous and it’s not to be taken lightly, so I definitely want to go out there and be focused,” she said.

“I’m kind of like a sponge,” she said. “If I see something that they are doing, or something that I think it’s a possibility that they might be able to teach me, then I just go over the limit and say, ‘Hey that’s what I want to do next.'”

How awesome to see women like Jolene doing what they love, and working hard to become one of the best in the world.
