The push for more women in leadership in certain industries is not just about some feel-good equality mandate. When it comes down to it, it is about money. A study from 2014 undertaken by Credit Suisse examined how have a more gender-mixed board and leadership team leads to more profitable returns. It is being called the most comprehensive study of its kids, because it looked at the gender mix of some 28,000 executives at 3,000 companies in 40 countries around the world.

No matter which way they looked at the data and make-up of boards, the returns were always significantly better when women were present, leading the study to conclude the presence of gender diversity can only be good for business in the long run. Of course, it’s not just about ticking a box and putting any woman on a seat, she must be the most qualified candidate. The problem arises out of the fact that with finance and trading being such male-dominated sectors, it can be difficult for women to even get the chance to be seen in the first place, which is why studies like this are important.

However, there are women who have pushed through the glass ceiling and become powerhouse names in the aforementioned industries, not just within major companies, but individually, doing away with the notion that trading is just a “man’s game”.  In fact, trading in Forex and other markets is now more accessible than it’s ever been. Anyone with the inclination can start trading Forex immediately, on one of the online platforms.

This has opened up trading and finance to female investors. The traditionally male industry is no longer clogged with men, and the world is finding out that women can and will rise to the top. There are already some very successful female investors and traders, who have proved they are just as capable as many man of being successful, raising the bar and making their money work for them. These are 5 of the most successful women in trading and finance today.

The crazy story about Ingeborg Mootz is that she only started trading at the age of 83! Within 8 years she made 500 000 Euros at the stock exchange. 2. Kathy Lien

Kathy Lien is one of the most successful Forex traders around. Not only has she made loads of money, she is also one of the most well respected writers and authors about Forex trading.

Geraldine-Weiss

3. Geraldine Weiss

Geraldine Weiss is remarkable for having made a splash in the financial industry long before our modern day’s accessibility. No investment firm was interested in hiring her as more than a secretary, despite having learned about investing from youth. She had listened to her parents’ conversations and read books, before studying business and finance in college.

Instead of giving up, she started an investment newsletter in 1966, at the age of 40. She did not reveal that she was a woman until achieving consistent success, and breaking through the gender barrier.

abigail-johnson

4. Abigail Johnson

Born into a family with a firm place in the investment industry, Abigail Johnson is now a billionaire. Her grandfather founded Fidelity Investments, and her father served as Chairman. But Abigail made her own way, being put in charge of one of the largest mutual fund companies.

Abigail earned this honor – despite her family’s reputation, no one would put anyone but the best in charge of a company with nearly $3.5 trillion in assets under administration, and $1.5 trillion in assets under management.

linda-bradford-raschke

5. Linda Bradford Raschke

Linda Raschke began her trading career in the early 1980s. Again, this was before anyone could trade from the comfort of their own homes. She had to brave the very male and often misogynistic industry, and succeeded as becoming one of the most well-respected professional traders. She is president of two financial firms that bear her initials: LBRGroup, Inc. and LBR Asset Management.

Raschke has also authored a book on high probability trading strategies and has lectured on trading for the Managed Futures Association and Bloomberg.

Women have a proven track record at being some of the best traders and finance professionals. Now that it is easily accessible, anyone can start trading Forex now, no matter who they are. The industry is more open to diversity than it has ever been. And with the data to back it up, we hope to see more cracks in the glass ceiling the more women start to “lean in” to positions of leadership in the finance sector.
