If it’s policy change you want, often the most effective ways to achieve this is through creative means outside the political landscape. It can be argued that art has been and continues to be one of the most powerful mediums through which changed is created, and a new campaign by NYC-based gallery The Untitled Space is tapping into this notion.
The Untitled Space are running a campaign called “Future Vision”, in partnership with the non-profit SaveArtSpace, where they are raising funds via GoFundMe to launch a powerful nationwide public art billboard exhibition ahead of the 2024 presidential election, promoting democracy and love.
“Future Vision” will present compelling visual narratives on billboards throughout the nation that fight for our future. Running from October – November, this billboard campaign will grace major cities such as New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Las Vegas, Detroit, Nashville, Phoenix, and others.
This public art initiative is not just about idealism; it’s about providing a roadmap for the future we want to build and protecting the social systems we want to preserve. By focusing on the importance of racial justice, gender equality, reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, economic fairness, sustainability, and suffrage, this theme acts as a call to action for Americans to support democracy and motivate the public to head to the polls at this critical time.
Curated by Indira Cesarine, founder of The Untitled Space gallery, the “Future Vision” public art billboard campaign aims to amplify the voices of those fighting for social justice and systemic change, and who envision a promising future. Art has the power to provoke thought, spark conversation, inspire, and elevate. Likewise, activism has always been a driving force for progress.
By turning billboards into canvases for activist art, the gallery hopes to reach a broad audience while advocating for democracy and voter turnout during the 2024 election, with our freedoms and civil rights on the line.
In a time when social justice movements are gaining momentum worldwide, it is crucial to envision a future where justice is not just an ideal but a reality for all. As the possibility of Trump’s regressive Project 2025 looms – a conservative initiative that is poised to reshape the U.S. government and curtail civil liberties – the need for political advocacy is more urgent than ever.
Project 2025, a plan backed by the Heritage Foundation, outlines a 922-page plan to revoke LGBTQ+ rights, civil rights, women’s rights, and worker’s rights if Donald Trump is elected president. Despite Trump stating that he is not affiliated with Project 2025, his ties to the project are significant.
140 people who worked for Trump are associated with Project 2025, and he has a history of supporting the Heritage Foundation. Given this possibility, it is more important than ever to join the fight by supporting campaigns like “Future Vision” in advocating for democracy and human rights.
Through powerful imagery and innovative practices, “Future Vision” serves as an urgent reminder of the importance of voting and preserving our civil rights. Art has the unique ability to transcend cultural and linguistic barriers, reaching a diverse audience and evoking emotional responses that drive action.
Turning billboards into canvases for activist art not only amplifies important messages but also democratizes art, making it accessible to a wider audience. Because of its inherent accessibility and visibility, The Untitled Space believes that public art holds the potential to shift culture. By focusing on ideals such as justice, peace, equality, and diversity this theme motivates collective action toward a more just and harmonious world.
The Untitled Space and SaveArtSpace aim to place these billboards in at least 20 strategically selected locations around the US by mid-October, just weeks before the election, so that our voices can be heard in support of saving democracy. The campaign hopes to raise a minimum of $20,000 for 20 billboards, priced at $1000 each, allowing the organizers to place billboards in 20 key cities across America. All donations go directly towards funding the billboards. Contributions to this campaign are tax-deductible. Donate today, and stand with the “Future Vision” billboard campaign as it inspires, educates, and mobilizes viewers.
