It’s a great question, and one that we don’t often ask ourselves. Perhaps we are afraid of even the answer? As part of the ‘Lean In’ movement started by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, which also includes her book of the same title, the group created a video asking this question.

They started a tumblr page where people began submitting pictures of themselves and the things they would do if they weren’t “afraid”.

It is a great way to encourage dreams, boldness, and confidence. While it still requires the effort, it is especially important for the next generation to not be afraid of pursuing their passions. If the next generation of young men and women are too afraid to make a change and create cultural consciousness, then we are never going to progress.

The video gives some dismal figures such as boys are encouraged from an early age to be leaders, where as girls are not. Girls grow up with more inclinations to hide in themselves and not step out with courage. It’s high time this changed, because women have something very special and unique to offer many industries that men cannot. We should be working alongside each other and complimenting each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

“Studies show that even after college, women are less ambitious than their male peers. They avoid leadership roles. They are afraid to speak up. Why do women harbor such fear? Why are they afraid to raise their hands?” it explains on the website.

“Over the next month, more than 1 million women in this country will graduate from college. They will enter the workforce with higher GPAs than their male peers. Many will continue on to earn advanced degrees. For these bright young women, the world is their oyster.”

It’s great to see Sheryl Sandberg and the Lean In organization cross generational boundaries to impact young girls at a pivotal point in their lives.

Watch the video below and ask yourself the same question, what would you do if you weren’t afraid? If there was nothing stopping you what would you want to achieve? Click over to the tumblr page if you want to share your story with them!
