If you’ve been following dancer, actress and content creator Lexy Panterra for quite some time, you’ll no doubt be familiar with her groundbreaking dance fitness class TwerkOut, which shot her to viral fame in 2014. Known for her bold presence online and a deep connection with her fanbase, Lexy has built a global following through her music, magnetic personality, and trendsetting content that consistently taps into internet culture.
As an artist and entrepreneur whose videos keep her 2.4 million fans on social media coming back for more, Lexy’s grind has paid off with her very own show on OFTV – the free-to-view, safe-for-work streaming platform and app from OnlyFans.
Lexy co-hosts ‘Pulse Check’ with dancer and choreographer Matt Steffanina, which premiered on August 5 on the platform. As the show’s hosts, Matt and Lexy will use their legacy dance skills to guide 12 OnlyFans creators through the fast-paced, four-part series. In each episode, the contestants will work with Matt and Lexy to choreograph a one-minute dance with the goal of sending heart rates soaring. With ‘targets’ in the audience wearing heart rate monitors, they not only need to impress the judges, but also raise pulses higher than anyone else, to take home the ultimate $5,000 prize.
We had the chance to go one-on-one with Lexy to get the inside scoop on ‘Pulse Check’, building a huge fanbase and the type of content she loves making the most.
Congrats on the premiere of ‘Pulse Check’! How does it feel to have the show out in the world?
Thank you! Yeah, this production was pretty big! I always love doing TV shows and talk shows; for this one, I got to get into my hosting bag, which I think I’m pretty good at. I would love to host some more, and I’m excited to show the world a different side of me!
How did you initially get involved in the project, and what excited you most about the show?
My friend and fellow cohost Matt Steffanina actually recommended me! He has been my friend for a while through the dance community in Los Angeles. When he heard about this opportunity, I was one of the first people he thought of. I thought that the show fit my personality perfectly, so I immediately said yes!
What can your fans expect to see from the contestants, and you?
Fans can expect to see a little dancing from myself, as well as a lot of different genres and personalities on stage. Expect some hilarious, fun, and awkward moments from our contestants.
As someone who has been involved in dance for a long time and has built a fanbase with your performances, what should aspiring competitors know about creating longevity with a dance career?
The number one thing I always say is you have to love what you’re doing! Take the time to find your personal style and add personal touches to everything you create.
How do you continually grow your audience in a world that is saturated with so many dance-based content creators? What makes you stand out?
It can definitely be a saturated industry – I’d have to ask my fans what makes me stand out to them! I’m well known for my twerking videos, and when I started in 2014 there weren’t many girls like me doing that online. I think people were also drawn to the fact that I always have a smile on my face, and that I love dancing in the streets. I also switched up my style with the type of pants I was wearing, and I noticed more people started buying those. So I think it was a mix of all of these factors at once!
Can you tell us about some of the work you and Matt Steffanina have done together, and what makes your chemistry on the show so great?
We’ve made a lot of videos on TikTok and social media together, so getting to work on set together for the first time was incredible. We’re both jokesters and that really made our chemistry stand out. The cast behind-the-scenes had such great energy as well, and that definitely helped.
Social media and internet trends come and go. But how do you maintain your engagement with your fans beyond the hashtag or viral video of the day?
I really think it’s about just following your gut and making content that feels right to you. Don’t focus too much on what other people are doing; I think the most creative juices start flowing when you’re isolated. At this point, I would just say to film everything!
What are your biggest challenges when it comes to content creation, and what do you want your followers to know about what goes on behind the scenes to create great videos?
Honestly what I struggle with is living in the moment and having to film everything. It’s necessary that I get the content, but also I want to enjoy my life and enjoy the things around me. I spend a lot of time between editing, commenting, and posting, so I would say that you have to love this stuff to do it.
What is your favorite style of dance or genre to make videos of, and what brings you the most joy?
Specifically for me, I really like to freestyle and I love to twerk since I found that that’s something I’m really good at. Freestyle brings me the most joy, although I love to take choreography classes in heels – it makes me feel sexy!
What are your career goals for the next 5 years, and how do you hope to build on your acting, music and dance career?
My career goals would be to build out my record label Lex Luther Records, as well as my agency Lex Luther Inc. These businesses are for girls like me who want to break boundaries – I’m gonna try my hardest to open those doors for these girls!
Who do you wish to collaborate with in the future?
I love collaborating, and honestly I have a lot of specific artists in mind, but I don’t want to jinx anything! I’ll just say whatever comes to me, that’s what’s meant to be 😉
