Giving Tuesday is here again, and this year, we are choosing to amplify the importance of access to sexual and reproductive health, on a global scale. Access to sexual and reproductive healthcare, giving women and girls the autonomy and power over their own lives and bodies, is crucial for a life of safety and prosperity.
We’ve been watching women in Iran fighting for their human rights and freedoms; we’ve witnessed American women go to the polls in astounding numbers to reinforce the constitutional right to access to abortion; and we are currently heartbroken at the way Israeli and Palestinian women and their access to health and safety is being stolen away by the ongoing conflict. The ability to control our reproductive health is connected to every aspect of our lives and our overall capacity to thrive. It is why reproductive and sexual health and gender equality are constantly under attack.
According to the WHO, almost everyone of reproductive age—about 4.3 billion people around the world—will not have access to at least one essential reproductive health intervention over the course of their lives. Which makes this a timely and urgent cause.
So today, on a day when many of us are looking for ways to support important causes, we are choosing to invest in the work of a nonprofit organization called EngenderHealth – a global organization committed to advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights and gender equality. They do this by a three-pronged approach:
- By supporting individuals in making free, informed decisions about sexuality and childbearing so they can live the lives they want;
- By collaborating with local communities and civil society organizations to prioritize health and rights; and
- By partnering with health systems and governments to provide sustainable, high-quality services and a policy environment that supports access to care.
EngenderHealth are internationally recognized for their expertise and impact in: sexual and reproductive health and rights, maternal and obstetric care, and addressing gender-based violence. Their programs are designed to address harmful gender norms, increase meaningful youth participation, and support health systems strengthening, which is critical to achieving universal health coverage.
EngenderHealth have implemented programs in more than 100 countries spanning 5 continents, and they currently have hundreds of country-based staff, 99% of whom are local. All of this is possible thanks to donations from donors – people like you!
On #GivingTuesday this year, join us in donating to an organization that is ensuring women and girls around the world can see sexual and reproductive healthcare within their reach. As a bonus, their generous board of directors will be matching donations up to $25,000, which means whatever amount you are able to give will potentially be doubled if they reach their goal! This money will allow EngenderHealth to continue their impactful work with local partners in numerous countries around the world.
When you donate to EngenderHealth, you support our efforts to ensure that people’s sexual and reproductive rights are upheld as human rights. Your support makes a difference.
