Women’s History Month, celebrated annually in March, is a time dedicated to recognizing and honoring the contributions and achievements of women throughout history. The month-long observance traces its origins back to the first International Women’s Day in 1911 and was officially recognized by the United States in 1987. Since then, Women’s History Month has served as a platform for celebrating the accomplishments of women in various fields, advocating for gender equality, and promoting women’s rights worldwide.

It’s common to see numerous brands, platforms and corporations turn up the dial to celebrate women during March each year. And while this is certainly commendable, women should be celebrated, paid equally and treated with dignity very day of the year, regardless of a special monthly title. It’s one of the reasons we exist as a platform, and the work we do everyday aims to champion and amplify others who are doing the same.

Our friends at The Untitled Space Gallery in NYC have long been championing the work of women and female-identifying artists. Since its founding, the gallery has provided a platform for female artists to showcase their work and has actively advocated for gender equality within the art world. Through exhibitions, events, and initiatives, The Untitled Space continues to champion the voices and talents of women artists, empowering them to share their stories and perspectives with a global audience.

In honor of Women’s History Month, The Untitled Space gallery proudly presents “WE ARE WOMEN,” a captivating online exhibition and art collection showcasing the talent and diversity of 30 female artists some of whose work has been seen at the gallery in previous exhibitions. Launched on International Women’s Day, March 8th and exhibiting through March 31st, art lovers and collectors are invited to explore the curated collection of small works and limited editions, each offering a unique perspective on womanhood, empowerment, and creativity.

“This exhibition not only highlights the incredible talent of female artists but also serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting and uplifting women in the arts,” says Indira Cesarine, founder and curator of The Untitled Space.

And she’s certainly not wrong. As data from digital art platform Singulart recently found, we have a long way to go when it comes to diversity in the art world. By analyzing over 46,000 pieces of art, Singulart found a huge gender disparity in the artwork displayed by US museums, with 86.8% of artwork coming from artists who identify as male, while just 13.2% comes from artists who identify as female. Additionally, with only 11.6% of total artwork coming from artists of color, there is a clear bias on display in art museums. Which is why galleries such as The Untitled Space play such a pivotal role not only in the art world but in helping to change our culture.
