We’re ALL about encouraging women and girls to raise their voices to create change, and a new book is taking that message and empowering the next generation of change-makers to do the same by profiling remarkable female role models throughout history, in a unique and creative way.

‘Noisemakers: 25 Women Who Raised Their Voice And Changed The World’ is a collection of badass stories that are sure to inspire the young girl in your life this Black History Month as well as the upcoming Women’s History Month. The book comes from the creators of the award-winning Kazoo magazine, and chronicles the 25 women in graphic novel form, giving the stories a fun and exciting visual twist.

Erin Bried, Kazoo Magazine editor-in-chief

Released on February 4, the book includes notable names such as Rosa Parks, Hedy Lamarr, Frida Kahlo, Maya Angelou, Bessie Coleman and many more, with a focus on diversity and inclusion with the women listed.

Each woman profiled has her story transformed into a cool illustration by some of Kazoo’s most acclaimed, contemporary cartoonists. Kazoo editor-in-chief and founder Erin Bried is certainly no stranger to raising her voice and making some noise herself, having launched the magazine with not just any crowd-funded campaign, but the highest-funded journalism campaign Kickstarter had ever seen! And in 2019 it became the first and only kids’ magazine ever to win the prestigious National Magazine Award for General Excellence.

“What sets Kazoo apart is that we celebrate girls for being smart, strong, fierce and true to themselves, and everything we do supports that mission,” said Erin in a press release.

The magazine has caught the attention of some of our personal contemporary feminist heroes including author Roxanne Gay, who called the magazine “kickass”. Plus, with previous contributions from inspiring women such as Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Ellen DeGeneres, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Warren, Dolores Huerta, Shonda Rhimes and many more, we don’t need a tonne of convincing to know that this book is exactly what the world needs right now.

Given the enormous cultural impact women have been having over the past few years with the Women’s March, the creation of movements such as Black Lives Matter, #MeToo, March for Our Lives protesting gun violence, Climate Strike global marches, #NiaUnaMenos across Latin America and more, women are certainly no strangers to understanding the power of their voices. With a record number of women being elected to political offices across the United States, and various countries electing their first female heads of state, there has never been a better time to encourage the young girls in your life to take up space and not be afraid of raising their voice.

‘Noisemakers: 25 Women Who Raised Their Voices & Changed The World’ is available for purchase now through Amazon and all good bookstores. Be sure to check out Kazoo magazine online also.
